For ease in understanding the international patent process, the process is best viewed from two perspectives. One perspective is that of a United States inventor or business entity filing an international application in another country. The other perspective is that of a foreign inventor or business entity filing a patent application in the United States. Although some of the steps are similar in both perspectives, they are repeated in the description of both perspectives to reduce the possibility of confusion.
